They stand on the field, their hearts beating fast The whistle has blown, the die has been cast Mum and dad cannot help, they stand there alone, A goal at the moment would send the team home.
The ball nears their feet, a boy kicks and he misses, There’s a moan from the crowd, some boos and some hisses. A thoughtless voice cries “get that kid off”. It’s all to easy to criticise and scoff.
Tears fill his eyes, it’s no longer fun. Knowing he failed what you said should be done. So if you are tempted to shout or to groan, Remember it’s a child who stands there all alone.
So open your heart, and give him a break, It’s moments like this a player you make. Keep this in mind, and please don’t forget They are all only children, and not adults yet.

Birchwood Boots Scheme
We want everyone to enjoy their passion of football and we know that children grow quickly and it isn’t cheap to cloth them. That is why we have created our Birchwood Boots Scheme where we take in donated football boots that have been grown out of so we can provide them to our other members free of charge so they don’t have to miss out on their dreams.

KITZ4KIDZ
Kitz4Kidz is a worldwide charitable organisation that provides football kits to children in deprived areas of the world including in Ghana (Africa). Birchwood Colts has signed up to recycle second hand playing kits and equipment to Kitz4Kidz who can then distribute it to where it is needed to allow children to participate in football activities who otherwise would not be able to. People probably don’t realise the difference we can actually make to the lives of the children that benefit from these donations. Life in these countries is so different to ours.
